Vacaville High School Athletics
Vacaville High School offers 23 interscholastic sports on our campus. Vacaville High School competes in the Monticello Empire League (MEL) alongside six other schools. We are a member of the Sac-Joaquin Section (SJS) and governed by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Over half of our students participate in a sport on our campus.
The VHS Athletic program is highly competitive. Since the beginning of the Monticello Empire League (1976), VHS Athletics have won over 332 league championship titles, 84 section titles, and 30 School of the Years.
Philosophy
Interscholastic athletics supplement the academic program at Vacaville High School, which assists our students in their personal growth. They instill a sense of pride in community, teach lifelong lessons of teamwork and self-discipline, and facilitate the physical and emotional development of the students who participate. Our athletic programs provide valuable lessons for practical situations - teamwork, sportsmanship, winning and losing, and hard work. Through participation in our programs, students build self-confidence, and develop skills to handle competitive situations similar to those they will continue to experience throughout their lifetime. These are qualities we expect our students at Vacaville High School to develop in order to become responsible adults and productive community members.
As representatives of our school, they understand their responsibility as ambassadors of VHS and our community. Sportsmanship, respect for all participants, whether opponents or teammates, and dignity in the face of adversity are more important than the outcome of the contests.
Once A Bulldog, Always a Bulldog
At VHS we truly believe in the saying, “Once a Bulldog, Always a Bulldog.” We currently have more than 70 former Bulldogs competing athletically at universities throughout the country and professionally. Most check in regularly, and keep us connected and part of their lives. As expressed to our staff, they are proud to tell people where they are from! As a testament to our strong tradition in athletics, more than 30 coaches on staff are VHS alumni as well.
